Post-doctoral position at University of Edinburgh

In Vivo Research Fellow

Based within the MRC/University of Edinburgh Centre for Inflammation Research, an exciting opportunity has emerged for a post-doctoral researcher . You will be a pivotal team member of a prestigious GlaxoSmithKline Discovery Partnership with Academia (DPAc - one of only

10 awarded globally) led by Jonathan Fallowfield and Scott Webster, to discover and develop a new anti-fibrotic medicine for liver fibrosis.

Some prior experience in small animal microsurgery (such as vascular cannulation, suturing) is highly desirable. We will provide training in bespoke techniques (such as bile duct ligation) through the Rene Remie Surgical Skills Centre. You will drive the in vivo component of the project, comprising pharmacodynamic and efficacy assessments (haemodynamic and anti-fibrotic) in rat liver fibrosis models for lead compounds. There will also be opportunities to develop skills in preclinical imaging and drug discovery (including establishing a new precision-cut liver slice platform in Edinburgh). The appointment will be for 1 year in the first instance.

You will hold a PhD (or near completion) in a related research area and you will have technical skills and experience in in vivo work and hold a Home Office personal licence. You will also have core laboratory skills in qPCR and Western Blotting. You will have knowledge in the fields of liver fibrosis and drug discovery.

Informal approaches should be made to Jonathan Fallowfield (Senior Clinical Fellow & Honorary Consultant Hepatologist; jfallowf@staffmail.ed.ac.uk; 0131-242-6655) and/or Scott Webster (Senior Lecturer & Director, Drug Discovery Core; Scott.Webster@ed.ac.uk; 0131-242-6738). Susan Currie wrote:
