We have an opportunity for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to the British Heart Foundation Project grant “Pharmacological and dynamic-clamp narrowing of the calcium current window to inhibit human atrial early afterdepolarisations and atrial fibrillation”, working primarily with human atrial cells and tissues.

Specifically, the job requires expert knowledge in whole-cell-patch clamp or related electrophysiological techniques

Applicants will be qualified to SCQF level 12 (PhD) or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).

This post is fixed term for 3 years.

Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) is seeking a post-doctoral research associate to join the cardiovascular and metabolic disease research group. The post is HRUK-funded and is available for one year initially with a further year's funding released subject to progress. You will join a vibrant cardiovascular research group based in SIPBS and will work on a translational project investigating CaMKII as a biomarker for cobalt-induced cardiotoxicity. The project is a co-investigation between Dr Susan Currie & Dr Roth Tate (SIPBS), Prof Helen Grant (Dept of Biomedical Engineering) and involves external clinical collaboration with Prof Dominic Meek (Queen Elizabeth University Hospital). The successful candidate will have a PhD in Physiology/Pharmacology or a related discipline and will have post-doctoral experience preferable in cardiovascular research. Possession of a Home Office Personal Licence is essential and experience in langendorff heart perfusion would be desirable. A 3 year Demonstrator/PhD studentship, funded by the School of Medicine is available within the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Trinity College Dublin. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team, which is focussed on the role of protein phosphatases and their endogenous inhibitors in vascular disease.

The PhD project will investigate the role of novel small molecule inhibitors of PP2A on permeability of the brain microvasculature. A part of the studentship also involves assisting the 2nd year pharmacology course coordinator.

The position will be funded at €16,000 per annum plus academic fees and the successful applicant will register for a PhD within the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics at TCD. The ideal candidate will have a primary degree (minimum 2.1 honours or equivalent) in a biomedical or related science. We are looking for an enthusiastic person who has good communication skills, an ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, and is interest in developing their teaching skills.
